This exhibition is dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the birth of Yordan Parushev. The selection of artworks presenting canvases, sculptures and assemblages does not have a retrospective character but shows part of the creative pursuits of the artist over the last ten years of his artistic work.
Yordan Parushev is one of the contemporary artists of a markedly prominent position in Bulgarian figurative art, an innovator and, at the same time, dictating aesthetic taste and artistic principles. His oeuvre reveals an exceptionally spiritual personality of great intellect and commitment to his work. In parallel with his purely creative activity, Yordan Parushev ‘infected’ many of the young generation of Bulgarian artists with а passion for figurative art through his teaching, sharing his gained experience and rich culture. The physical absence of the artist is an indisputable fact, but the great privilege of creators is that they leave a great heritage that ‘lives’ and reminds one of the existence of those figures who have left a lasting trace in their earthbound being.
This project of the initiative group of the Yordan Parushev Foundation and friends was realised with the cooperation of the National Gallery.
Yordan Parushev was born on 30 June 1958 in Sliven. He graduated in Painting in 1983 from the Sts Cyril and Methodius University in Veliko Tarnovo, under Prof. Stanislav Pamukchiev. An Associate Professor in Art History and Painting at the Sts Cyril and Methodius Veliko Tarnovo University. A member of the Union of Bulgarian Artists. On 15 December 2011, the artist died in a car accident.
